Acheinu Second Annual Flatbush Parlor Meeting

Last year’s Annual Acheinu Parlor Meeting featured the Mashgiach of Lakewood, HaGaon Harav Mattisyahu Salomon, shlita, and attracted a huge crowd.

Acheinu askanim were equally gratified by the tremendous outpouring of support at the recent follow-up to that event “” the Second Annual Acheinu Flatbush Parlor Meeting held on Thursday, November 8, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Simcha Applegrad. More than 150 people were in attendance. The featured speaker of the evening was the venerated Gaon and Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevezh, HaGaon HaRav Berel Povarsky, shlita.

Harav Berel Povarskya Rosh Yeshiva who has been delivering shiurim at Ponovezh for more than 50 years, is renowned for his tremendous warmth and love for every Jew. People routinely fly to Eretz Yisroel to meet Rav Berel.

Rav Berel is also one of the most enthusiastic supporters of Acheinu, has closely followed and encouraged Acheinu’s accountable Kiruv Rechokim efforts. He has seen their more than 93% success rate and has encouraged them not to ease their efforts to bring Hashem’s children back to our Father in Heaven.

Acheinu works with the specific goal of not only ensuring that their charges assume shemiras hamitzvos, but that they also grow into B’nei Torah who will remain within the walls of the bais hamedrash engaged in in-depth Torah learning, and lead lives dedicated to limud haTorah.

Rav Berel was introduced by Harav Shlomo Cynamon, shlita, Rav of K’hal Bnei Torah and Rosh Kollel of Kollel Dirshu of Flatbush. Rav Cynamon, an erudite talmid chochom and maggid shiur had the zechus to learn at the Ponovezh Yeshiva and hear shiurim from Rav Berel.

Rav Cynamon assured the audience that even if they did not understand every word of Yiddish spoken by the Rosh Yeshiva, just being in the same room with a gadol of his stature and hearing the words being given over from his Rebbeim “” the Chazon Ish and the Brisker Rov, among others “” would have a powerful impact.

The truth of this statement became evident as Rav Berel addressed the hushed assembly.  Rav Berel spoke about the responsibility of frum Yidden to do kiruv and the importance of approaching kiruv with the right understanding and emotion. In one instance, he explained that just like a person doesn’t get angry at his teeth when he accidentally bites his tongue, because they are all part of you, one also should not get angry at someone not keeping the Torah, because it is like helping  yourself.

The event was chaired by the well known askan and rishon l’chol davar shebekedusha Reb Chaskel Bennett. The prominent reception committee included community leaders Simcha Applegrad, Efroim Fasten, Shulky Greenwald, Menacham Jakubovic, Menachem Katz, Yitzy Leshinsky, Menachem Lipman, Yanky Miller, Moshe Muller, Dovid Morgenstern, Shamshon Pinter, Mendy Strauss, Levi Zagelbaum and Gedaliah Zlotowitz.

Rabbi Moshe Simcha Levine, Acheinu’s Executive Director related, “I am so pleased that we have such a group of devoted Flatbush askanim who are dedicated b’lev v’nefesh to Acheinu’s mission and have encouraged their friends to avail themselves of the unique opportunity to hear Rav Berel Povarsky and be inspired by his words of chizuk and by Acheinu’s story.”
